Many envelope designers and envelope printers measure the size of an envelope incorrectly.
The first measurement is along the flap way.

A # 10 envelope is 9-1/2" x 4-1/8". The flap is along the 9-1/2" way. Many printers call the size
4-1/8" x 9-1/2".
If the envelope size is 4-1/8" x 9-1/2" how would we know the direction of the flap on a 6" x 9" envelope.
We all know that a 6" x 9" envelope has the flap the 6" way making it an end flap envelope. If the envelope
size was 9" x 6" we would have a booklet envelope with the flap going the 9" way.

Confusing? Not really. Just remember that the first measurement is the side the flap is on.

Most business envelopes are printed on 24 lb. white wove stock. Colored envelopes are available for a slight additional charge. Without a window the envelope is called a Regular Envelope. With a window it is naturally called a window envelope.

Standard window size on business envelopes is 4-1/2" wide and 1-1/8" high with 4 round corners.
The position of the standard window is 7/8" from the left side of the envelope; 1/2" from the bottom.

The standard window size and position does not change with the size of the standard business envelope. Small size envelopes such as # 6-3/4 up to large # 14 envelopes have the same size window in the same position.
There are many dies to manufacture windows of different sizes and shapes allowing you to place the window in any position on the envelope to fit your special needs.

Offset is the standard printed method and best quality for small to medium size runs. Larger runs over
1,000,000 can be run on specially designed printing pressed using Flexographic inks.  Flexographic inks dry faster. The paper stock can be die cut first, run flat and fast on the printing press reducing the chance of press jam ups. Special presses then fold and apply the gum to the flap of the envelope completing the manufacturing process.

Standard business envelopes are manufactured with a gum flap to be moistened, folded and sealed
or Self Seal using the Flip and Seal or Peel and Seal methods. Gum flap is the least expensive.

Standard business size envelopes are packed 500 to a box and 2500 to a carton. Standard business envelopes are priced in quantities of 1000, 2500, 5000, 10,000 and 25,000 with the majority of orders being 1,000 to 5,000.
